Make Votes Matter

Standard

I’ve moaned about this before – most notably after the last general election – but it’s really, really important that the Labour party takes this on board for the next parliament, otherwise we run the risk of a repeat of the last 14 years and I, for one, don’t think I can face that.

A debating chamber should be that: a place of debate where the best solutions are thrashed out, rather than an echo chamber where everybody knows what their vote is going to be before they hear any of the arguments, because the party whip has told them so. Our current system allows this ridiculous situation to be perpetuated.

If you aren’t convinced, please look at Makes Votes Matter, or check out this meeting held yesterday.

Too many people don’t vote because they can’t see what difference their vote makes and who can blame them? If one party has a 20,000 majority in your constituency and your preference is for another party, really, what is the point? PR would change all of this. Make sure the Labour Party understand that things have to change. Email your Labour Party candidate and make your feelings known. You can find their details here.
